This publication reports a comprehensive and independent cost study which was undertaken to provide a comparison between various structural options for both a three storey office building in an out of town location, and for a six storey office building in a central city location. The building designs were taken up to normal outline design stage, the only differences being attributable to the structural frame material. In all fourteen floor design options were evaluated, budget costings were assigned to all elements of construction and adjustments were made to reflect time-related costs attributable to differences in the construction programme.
