There has been considerable debate in the construction industry about the relevance of BS 8203, Code of practice for installation of resilient floor coverings, in particular about the relative humidity of the concrete before laying coverings. In response to this, the Concrete Society, partly funded by the DETR Partners in Technology programme, contracted Taylor Woodrow Engineering Ltd to prepare and monitor various concrete substrates and tile/ adhesive combinations laid at a range of relative humidities. This Report discusses the measurement of moisture in concrete and the perceived effect of moisture on the adhesion of impermeable floor coverings relative to the requirements of the code of practice.
