Publications
Following the withdrawal of BS 8110, this publication of worked design examples which is in accordance with BS EN 1992-1-1:2004 (Eurocode 2) will provide an easy-to-use reference for structural designers of precast concrete components and structures. It complements its sister publication, Precast Eurocode 2: Design Manual, and illustrates the application of the Eurocode through worked examples covering many routine practical solutions. Designers will find both publications as useful companion documents to the new Code, both during the transition period and beyond. The publication contains 13 worked examples covering a number of common design approaches of precast concrete elements in building structures and an example of designing a complete building with a number of differing precast components.Like the first publication it is anticipated that it will be influential in helping consulting structural engineers and the UK precast concrete industry make the best use of the Structural Concrete Eurocode, EC2. The move towards greater offsite construction techniques, with the construction site becoming more a place of components assembly, makes the Worked Examples a tool of particular importance for design engineers. The Worked Examples, like the Design Manual, has been prepared by a well-known expert on the Eurocode and a key member of the UK's Eurocode development team, Professor R S Narayanan, with the support and assistance of a Project Team drawn from consulting engineers, industry bodies, precasters and academia. It was also subject to review by another well-known member of the UK Eurocode team, Robin Whittle, formerly of Arup.
