TN11 - Specialist Concrete Bridges

Examines the detailing that is peculiar to a concrete bridge. These need to consider buildability, durability, maintainability, safety, aesthetics, and weather with particular consideration being given to salt laden water, which requires a positive drainage and drip system for all near-horizontal surfaces.  In order to protect details within the concrete the characteristics of the concrete must also be specified, with due regard to site conditions. Working to these specifications will ensure that the concrete is best suited to its location, and provide a low maintenance working life.
