Self-compacting concrete can reduce the opportunity for the problems that poorly compacted concrete can bring, including physical appearance, strength and durability. Self-compacting concrete also brings other benefits, including the elimination of operative exposure to potentially harmful levels of noise, vibration and physical strain. This Technical Report has been written in response to the increasing level of interest in and use of self-compacting concrete. It provides a basis for understanding the concept of self-compacting concrete from its origins, potential applications, properties, principles of mix design and specification, through to practical considerations regarding its use.
