The purpose of this Report is to provide up-to-date and technically well-founded information on cathodic protection to assist civil and structural engineers and others responsible for structures and buildings, to assess whether cathodic protection is an appropriate remedy for reinforcement corrosion problems. The Report provides guidance in the specification of cathodic protection for reinforced concrete. It is intended to provide an objective, concise technical review of cathodic protection of reinforcement including its merits and possible limitations.
This Technical Report has been prepared by a Joint Liaison Committee established between the Institute of Corrosion (ICorr), The Concrete Society and the Corrosion Prevention Association. The Working Party consisted of specialists in cathodic protection, supplemented by specialists with particular expertise in concrete, corrosion of steel in concrete, and the design, assessment and repair of reinforced concrete structures.
